National Pie Day ~ January 23

MP is always tearing articles out of the newspaper for future reference.

Thursday he handed me one of his important finds.

Why is National Pie Day celebrated on January 23 or 1/23?

Because celebrating the wholesome goodness of pie is as easy as 1-2-3,

says the National Pie Council.

I picked up a pie crust at the Newport Beach SusieCakes store on Friday.

The pie entries were to be delivered between 10 and 3 on Saturday for the tasting.

I chose a strawberry pie that I had created for the 4th of July.

The surprise is a cheesecake cream layered on the crust after it is blind baked

and before it is topped with giant strawberries and a slightly sweetened

Grand Marnier glaze.

I use the  less attractive berries at the bottom of the basket for the glaze.

Although it requires 3 baskets of premium berries, we have

the most beautiful strawberries available in the middle of winter.

Winner! Winner! Congratulations! My answering machine sang out!

Susan loved your Strawberry Pie.

I stopped by to pick up my prize and learned that Susie herself was the judge!

I sort of thought she may be a fictitious icon like...

The only other thing I can remember winning is a faucet

at the Grand Opening of a Plumbing Supply store.

Happy Birthday to me~~
