Unfamiliar Territory

It is difficult to think of much else today-- Oklahoma.

Shock and raw grief insulate families who have lost their beloved.  Eventually the cameras go away; eyes turn elsewhere; reluctantly lamenting hearts return home-- a few intact and unrocked.

There is no map but a guide that sets my stride.

17 years, 7 months, 72 hours...

-- C. S. Lewis in A Grief Observed

I thought I could make a map of sorrow. Sorrow, however, turns out to be not a state but a process. It needs not a map but a history. Grief is like a long valley, a winding valley where any bend may reveal a totally new landscape.

--but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.  Isaiah 40:31
